  • Maybe you are interested in a writing workshop. Check out the samples below, or request one to be tailored to your needs.

WRITING FROM THE HEART WITH VERSE

Writing about life’s peaks and valleys in free verse form can be a constructive way to deal with emotional issues. You don’t have to be a professional writer to enjoy the benefits. In this workshop we will explore the expertise of contemporary authors who have mastered verse novels. We’ll dissect various writing styles to determine the key ingredients that these authors have used to penetrate readers’ hearts. Participants will have an opportunity to dig deep for a nugget of their own that can best be expressed through the power of verse.  This workshop is open to teens and adults who appreciate the value of the written word in poetic form.

STICKY TRICKY TONGUE TWISTERS

This rollicking class works best for third through sixth graders, but the age range can be adjusted. Participants will read and recite a variety of tongue twisters and create their own, using alliteration, repetition, rhyming and various parts of speech.

MENTAL HEALTH:  THE POWER OF BOOKS, REFLECTION, AND COMMUNITY

One in four adults experience mental illness in a given year.  Whether you are the care receiver or the care giver, being included in this statistic can turn into a heartbreaking nightmare.  Seeking quick and appropriate  medical help should always be the first priority.  In addition, there is powerful and effective support to be found through books, reflective writing, and community interaction.  In this workshop, participants will explore a suggested reading list of fiction and non-fiction books featuring some of the major mental illnesses; sample a writing exercise to promote self-awareness; and learn about available support networks in the community.  This workshop can be tailored to adults or teens.
